New Brunswick Ready! Attention!....(short pause). GO!
The 2005 New Brunswick Canada Games Rowing Training Team has been busy long before the ice was out of the river. We currently have 32 athletes training, racing and pushing themselces to make the final team which will be picked on June 20th, 2005. We have had two training camps over the winter and a recent training camp was held in May. We've had special guest coaches, Kim Norris, Head Coach for the Fredericton Rowing Club and Master Coach for Rowing Canada, and Dr. Volker Nolte, Former Light Weight Men's National Team Coach for Rowing Canada and now the current Men's Head Coach for University of Western Ontario.
On May 21st, the training team participated in the Ice Breaker Regatta in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia where we went toe to toe with crew fromNova Scotia Canada Games team and the Newfoundland Canada Games Team. With still having a large team the crews did as well as expected and came away with a lot of great things to work on until we see those same crews in July.
The summer schedule is quite busy with time trials starting June 11th, two local regattas, a two week summer camp with Volker nolte, and still the chance of attending a high caliber regatta before the Canada Games in August.
The crew are training out of two clubs. The Fredericton Rowing Club on the Saint John River, and The Kennebecassis Rowing Club on The Kennebecassis River. The athletes are training 9 - 10 times a week and will ramp up to 12 by the end of May. When the final team is picked in June, both the Men's and Women's crew will be training hard out of the Kennebecassis Rowing Club in Rothesay, New Brunswick.
The hard work that the athletes have put in during the icy winter months has helped them pick up where they left off last summer. The rowers goals are to make the team and represent New Brunswick well.
Train Hard, Race Easy!!
